Com 140 - Spring 2015: January 2015

So I was going to write about what we talked about in our last class but since we had a snow day I will talk about what we went over on the first class. I would agree for the most part on the point we went over in our first class about media and society, and what would fall under the category of media. Essentially the only thing I would actually disagree with was some of the points about how long man has been on the earth and if at one point man was a stupid monkey without the ability to speak, which was what we came to the conclusion in class was the source of media and the intelligence associated with speech. The debate over the "theory" of evolution is definitely reserved for another conversation tho. I feel that the ability to think and reason is the source of all media. Even if you were to watch a movie and you didn't know the language of the movie you could still think about what you saw and make assumptions and draw conclusions for your self. If two people were talking and they both knew different languages one of them could put his hand in the shape of holding a hammer and make the same movement as a hammer and the other person would be able to comprehend what the other means. The hammer example I am actually referring to past experiences where I was working on a construction team in mexico and i don't know Spanish. Society I think would be any form of media that is conveyed to an individual that is mentally able to think and use logic and reason.
